Training and its components
Choreographic preparation
Rossana Bonzi,
responsible for choreography, has successfully managed to capture the interest
of the participants with exercises mixing music with dance and the typical MAG
positions; the requirements for coordination capacities were very high.
The aim of
this preparation was the improvement of the flexibility of the gymnasts, the
development of certain positions, the improvement of the general posture of the
gymnasts during exercises accompanied by music. Visible progresses were noted
regarding the aspects of coordination, flexibility, and specific choreography.
The gymnasts have worked all together under the direct and permanent control of
the coaches, according to the requirement expressed by the choreography expert.
Small moments
of choreography and dance for the relaxation of the gymnasts/coaches and
moments of “stretching”with music,
have also brought some colors throughout the sometimes monotonous work in our
sport.
Physical preparation
An important
condition (established by UEG responsible and experts) that had to be respected
for the physical preparation was the
fact that the coaches had to be “universal”coaches for
all gymnasts and not only for their own gymnasts; the most important philosophy
of this training camp.
Under the
control of the coaches, the gymnasts performed a daily physical preparation
course. The content was varied - bent arms, stretched arms - alternating
different forms of preparation.
A team of
coaches was responsible for the preparation of the daily program, allowing the
content of the exercises being changed regularly. The coaches have acted as “controllers”at the
different points of the course but they have also kept an eye on the quality of
the execution. This made it possible to avoid the typical monotony of the
physical preparation, to increase the motivation of the gymnasts and to improve
the experience of the coaches for this part of the training.
Technical preparation
In accordance
with the desire of the coaches and UEG responsible, the experts (each one on
its apparatus) were involved in this chapter of the preparation by conducting
the work of the gymnasts. They assisted the coaches and gymnasts in learning
the basic elements and the more difficult elements.
In accordance
with the program established by the organizer, the technical preparation was
developed in the second part of the day. The work method was similar to the one
of an “official podium training”, each group of gymnasts having a certain time on each apparatus under
the direction of their own coaches. Although this part of the training had a
more individual character, the coaches also worked together.
Practical presentation of the experts
Scheduled at
the end of the morning training and at the beginning of the afternoon program,
the theoretical lectures were held in the gymnastics hall; the gymnasts could
also participate. The following presentations were made by the experts:
•
Valentin Potapenko (FRA) –Floor;
•
Barry Collie–Pommel Horse,
planning of the training, training systems;
•
DiegoLazzarich (ITA) –Rings and Vault;
•
ValeriBelenki (GER) –Parallel Bars;
•
Laurent Maertens (FRA) –High Bar;
This part of the preparation camp was the most interesting one for all
participants. These presentations concerned the methods of learning the basic
technical elements, the help (physical assistance) provided by coaches,
auxiliary exercises as well as the use of support apparatus for learning the
elements. The joint presence of the coaches and the gymnasts for this course
was an additional motivation for the experts.
The theoretical
lectures
Lectures on the following topics were held:
•
Jacob Wischnia(UEG) –FIG/UEG matters
•
Barry Collie – training planning and training
systems. His presentation concerned the athletes’selection and the planning of the preparation/participation in
competitions, for juniors and seniors, following the experience of the GB federation
in this field;
•
Diego Lazzarich– Floor statistics. He presented
statistics on the acrobatic elements presented during the last Olympic cycle as
well as on the scores obtained by the gymnasts.
Conclusions
As every year,
a meeting was organized at the end of the camp during which the organizers,
experts and coaches have exchanged impressions regarding the running of the
camp.
Mr Gianfranco
Marzolla (coordinator with the ITA federation) made an objective analysis of
the camp over the last years; his conclusion was that the camp has facilitated
the creation of a European cultural identity, based on typical means and
principles for our continent. The camp’s duration of
10 days corresponds to the need of our sport and for the moment all organizers
have a certain experience allowing them to continuously improve the camp,
taking into consideration all observations and suggestions made by the
participants and in particular by the coaches.
The number of
2 gymnasts and 2 coaches seems ideal for a national federation, thus making it
possible for all European national federations to participate in this training
camp. Considering the infrastructures offered to the participants, the price to
be paid to the UEG is reasonable.
All
participants have well appreciated all facilities provided by the Olympic
Preparation Centre CONI in Tirrenia, the service of all experts and
responsible, the excursions to Florence and Pisa as well as the
concept and format of the training camp. We have separate meetings with coaches
and experts. After very good discussion concerning for better organization of
this camp and we glad that we can accept almost all this suggestions
(breakfast, internet, equipment in gym and from side of experts some adaptation
work plan).
Furthermore
they have expressed suggestions and opinions regarding specific technical and
practical elements. All coaches and experts were invited to share their opinion
at this meeting. Sincere thanks from all participants of the camp were
addressed to the Italian Gymnastics Federation for the organization and to the
International Gymnastics Federation for its financial support. A big thank you
to the director of the CONI Tirrenia, to the staff of the centre and to the
AERONAUTICA for all they have done during this camp.
