UEG : organisation of the 1st UEG seminar for MAG judges

February 18, 2013
On February 9th and 10th, 2013, the first UEG seminar for MAG judges was held in Frankfurt, headquarters of the GER NF, with representatives of 23 national federations participating.
This was a historical event if one considers that it was the first time within the 30 years of UEG that the responsible of the judges of each country had the opportunity to come together in one place for an ad hoc programme designed by the UEG MTC at the very beginning of the new Olympic Cycle.
The topic of the seminar mainly focused on the training and more specifically on the education of the national judges in view of harmonising it and sharing all latest education tools and training methods as well as useful documents for the preparation of courses and exams at national level.

All this in order to give a fresh impetus to the activity that is essential for the future of gymnastics.
The involvement of so many competent persons willing to establish a joint work project should provide the starting point for the NF.
A tool that can continuously be updated, modified, with everyone’s contribution of ideas and proposals, allowing everyone to benefit.
This joint project represents thus an advantage for the future of gymnastics and in particular a different cultural approach of the new generation.
During the two days of the seminar the following persons intervened:
- Georges Guelzec (UEG President)
- Gianfranco Marzolla (MTC/UEG President)
- Tom Thingvold (Member of the MTC/UEG)
- Alain Macchia (Member of the MTC/UEG)
- Holger Albrecht (Member of the MTC/FIG)
- Andrew Tombs (Member of the MTC/UEG)
- Prof Sigmond Loland (expert)
- Mr. Doug Hills (expert)
- Mr. Fabien Bougas (expert)
- Dr. prof. Henning Plessner (expert)
- Jacob Wischnia (Vice President of the MTC/UEG)
- Mircea Apolzan (Member of the MTC/UEG)
The participants were divided in work groups, which allowed them to exchange and express their views on the topics discussed.

The aim was to achieve a standardization of the process of training, education and the methodology for the function of judge, combining, despite the limited time available, the ethical judgment, the planning of the training, IT solutions, practical exercises, updates and experimental proposals.
This lead to a confrontation in one common and functional place and allowed to verify that it is possible to proceed together in order to find common solutions in accordance with the needs of each NF, to create a cooperation model based on the exchange and the collection of useful data.
No other objective than to allow this initiative to put into practice what they have learned and to maintain the relation between the MTC/FIG – MTC/UEG – responsible within the NF.

At the end of the meeting, each participant had the complete documentation of the seminar.
A special thank you goes to the International Federation who, with its prestigious support, made it possible to organise such an important seminar for the future of the board of judges within gymnastics.
